In 2008, Butters Homes, our sister organization, constructed a state-of-the-art therapeutic facility for intellectually disabled or autistic adolescents & young adults, with severe behavioral problems, in St-Hyacinthe, (see above). This $2 million dollar facility, operated by the foundation’s public rehab partner in Eastern Montérégie, opened with a research & development component that had 2 levels. The first was a review of the effectiveness of the building itself to carry out its complex rehab mandate. That was completed in 2011. (See the link to the report in English below: Guide implantation-ANG). In 2012, the second part was launched and is still ongoing. By the end of 2017, a detailed report on the efficacy of the service that is being offered in the facility will be published, in French and in English, for the benefit of clinicians and professionals working in this specialized field in Quebec and beyond.
The research is being led by a group under the direction of Dr. Diane Morin of UQAM, with colleagues from other universities such as McGill and the Université de Montréal. See an abstract of the research project, in French, by clicking onto the French side of this website.
