On Friday, November 9th, 2018, The UQAM Foundation publicly honored the Butters Foundation for its timely donation of $125,000 to extend the life of the Chair in Intellectual Disability & Behavioral Issues for an additional year. This will allow the foundation to launch a campaign to support the Chair for an additional 5 years and to solicit funds for the implementation of a new 5-year research project that will continue its important work with intellectually disabled children with behavioral issues. The Chair is presently finishing a similar applied research project targeting pre-school children which had received $250,000 from the Butters Foundation in 2013. This complimentary project will follow these same children and others through elementary school. These projects will ultimately evaluate and propose therapies and clinical interventions that will reduce or eliminate negative behavior that inhibits learning for these kids and causes significant social problems for parents and siblings. These new Best Practices will then be disseminated to public agencies across Quebec, Canada and around the world.
